On 16 and 19 January 2017, the Spanish Post put into circulation two stamps dedicated to two personalities who lived under the reign of Isabella I of Castile, respectively the humanist and grammarian Antonio de Nebrija (1441-1522) and the cardinal, religious reformer and statesman Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros (1436-1517).
These two stamps (print run: 220,000 each) printed with a permanent domestic "A" rate for a letter up to 20g (currently € 0.50) and a permanent "B" rate for a letter up to 20g sent to Europe (currently € 1.25), were used on the letter below sent on August 7, 2017 from Alicante. Thank you very much Luis!

The stamp devoted to Antonio de Nebrija (above to the left) commemorates in particular the 500th anniversary of the publication of his book "Rules of Spanish Orthography", a few years after his famous "Gramática castellana" (in 1492) considered as the first grammar of a vernacular language written in Europe.
His portrait on that stamp is inspired by the sculpture located on the main façade of the National Library of Madrid.
The other stamp is devoted to the 500th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, a close adviser of Isabella I of Castile, Regent of Castile on several occasions, a key figure in the Spanish Renaissance who undertook important reforms in the functioning of Clergy.
That stamp is also featuring a sculpture of the cardinal in the Colegio Mayor of San Ildefonso in Alcalá de Henares, which he founded in 1499, later becoming the University of Alcalá de Henares (the tomb of the Cardinal is located in the chapel of this building).
